Again with that Prime Directive!

Ahh, the hilarity of dieting! After two days on the "Paleo diet" my husband cracked and made toast with his breakfast. We had a big fight about trying that diet to begin with. Mostly because I'm part French and Italian so Bread is in every meal. Once I agreed to do it and got ramped up suddenly he got angry because there was the issue of dairy products.

You made Toast? So Not Paleo.
Technically they are a animal product so it is fine to eat them especially since I have low Vitamin D/Calcium to contend with. It all came down to the ranch dressing issue. He would have to give up about 45% of his food staples while I could count the things to remove for me on one hand. He thinks I have no willpower because of my strong food cravings but when the body thinks its starving because your colon can't absorb many supplements and you have reactive hypoglycemia it is just hard to leave the kitchen.

So the first two days I stayed completely vegetarian. This isn't that foreign to me anyway since my Dad has always eaten that way for the last 20+ years. I do however love my steak and ground beef. After his morning toast and it being taco night I gave up on Paleo. For our tastes and more especially our budget issues it's not the right diet. Instead I am going to make my own way. I would not be surprised however if it turns out what I do already has a name. For the most part Paleo has shown me this week that I am happier without processed foods. There is also the hilarious matter of being food territorial. I always have been selfish with snacks but eating vegetarian changes me into a crazed hoarding rabbit that will snap the hand off anyone who touches her cauliflower and dip.

My diet then will be less grain more vegetables proportionately. I must say that after only a week now I can already feel my blood pressure reducing. Either my scale is broken or I have already lost nearly 5lbs since I was last weighed. I assume a good portion of that is colon waste and water weight. It seems so silly to have been eating so poorly for so long when some of my favorite foods are healthy, some even vegan. Just before this diet idea I had begun drinking water laced with juice (natural, no additives) and I think I may finally be at a spot where I can give up soda pop. Diabetes be damned! I refuse to fall into that category.
