Reasons to Hate Enterprise

So Hulu is streaming Star Trek: Enterprise and I couldn't resist. I never watched it during release because of all the negative comments about Rick Berman ruining the franchise. There was also a old theory that each of the later series caused the others cancellation. Of course this isn't necessarily true. Scott Bacula was another thing I was hearing ruined the show along with 'highly emotional vulcans'.

As I'm watching I can see quite a few reasons why Enterprise didn't earn Trekkie devotion but it's not what I expected.

So why hate Enterprise?

The ship is small, filled with mostly humans and the technology is familiar. This might turn off most people but the character development makes up for the lack of species diversity. The acting is actually VERY good. As for the technology, the production actually put good thought into placing the show into the appropriate time setting. The ship itself is similar but nothing is coated or touch paneled like the later series. Instead we have a metal and monitor . The door panels and wall comm for example follow the style of TOS. I think these elements reinforce the storyline.

The writers have there own great jokes as well. T'Pol rarely goes an away mission without mentioning that a directive or protocol should exist for something. Most episodes have at least one scene of semi nudity or romance. A lot of the stories might be scene as fan service but Enterprise is in a peculiar place to close plot holes.

So beginning season three the only thing I can really hate is the theme song. This series is the first to feature actual singing in the title and I hope it's the last.
